Thermotables

Tables of standard chemical potentials of compounds of biological interest. The standard chemical potentials (molar Gibbs energies of formation from the chemical elements) were collected from various literature resources. Then Legendre transformations a la Alberty et al 2011 were done with respect to protons, Mg2+, water, and also Legendre-like transformations for phosphate, sulfate, bicarbonate and ammonium. All together this resulted in the new 'standard metabolic potentials', which should be much better indicators of the energetic value of any compound. The project is a collaboration with Peter Halling, Johann Rohwer and Carsten Kettner, and may other biochemists. It has led to a bulleted list of recommendations offered to FEBS J for publication as well as a manuscript for BJOC.
